Shyama Charan Lahiri was an Indian spiritual Master who worked as an office clerk. One week he noticed that his boss, who was an Englishman, was sad and distressed. Lahiri asked what was troubling him. The boss told him his wife was very ill in a hospital in England, and that he had not heard any news from her or her family.
Lahiri suggested, "Let me go into the next room and meditate. Then I'll bring you news." The boss smiled at the young clerk. While he appreciated his good will, he didn't have any real faith in him. He believed that to do that kind of thing, one had to be a great spiritual Master with exceptional occult power. And he knew Lahiri only as a humble young clerk.
Fifteen minutes passed and Lahiri came out of the room and said to his boss, "In two or three days you'll receive a letter from your wife. She's doing well. You don't need to worry." He even related the contents of the letter to his boss.
In three days a letter did arrive, and it's contents were exactly what the clerk had said they would be. But the story doesn't end here. A few months later the boss's wife came to India. One day she visited her husband's office. When she saw Lahiri, her eyes opened wide in surprise. She said to her husband, "How is it this man is here? I saw him near my deathbed in the hospital. He looked at me and smiled, and then I recovered." Her husband and all those who were working in the office were taken aback.
Commentary:
A spiritual Master is one who has solved space and time problems as well as all other human problems. In his oneness with God's Cosmic Will, the length and breadth of the world abides. He doesn't go anywhere; he's simply there when he's needed. Medical power is often uncertain. But spiritual power is uncertain only when it's unaware of the omniscient capacity of the Source. When spirituality is fully aware of the capacity of the Source, and it's surrender gradually gains the capacity of the Source, lo and behold, it is blessed by the Source and grows into the all-powerful Source itself.
When you consciously use time
To do something divine,
You enter into timeless time.
When you are consciously
thinking
Of something divine,
eternal Life comes
And shakes hands with you.
